sorry for the offtopicality here, but i could use some advice about CS 315
(downing) this semester. actually, the advice is a bit more general than
just a class.
there were 4 "optional" C++ textbooks listed for the class, and the prof
says we really only need one of them, and which one to buy is a matter of
opinion. i went to the co-op and picked up three, figuring i'd spend some
time with them this weekend and decide which one to keep and which two to
return.
i haven't had a chance to do that yet, so if anyone has encountered these
books before, i would love to hear some opinions:
Programming & Problem Solving with C++, 2nd ed., by Dale, Weems, & Headington
C++ Primer, 3rd ed., by Lippman & Lajoie
The C++ Programming Language, 3rd ed., by Stroustrup
i'd love to keep all three but sometimes finances interfere with my
preferences, eh? at first blush, i'm leaning toward the last title because
its cover proclaims that it was written by "the creator of C++" but that
leaning may change as the weekend progresses and i actually start cracking
them.
so if anyone has something to say about these books' style, layout,
organization, factual content, or which one looks best on a bookshelf,
please let me know. thanks :o)
