there is no difference, i just wanted to make sure you had the
process down, it looks like you do.  (honestly i thought anyone
who knew how to compile a kernel would not touch a kernel rpm,
so i assumed you weren't familiar with the process...*shrug*)

yep, that rules out my previous idea.
i re-read your previous mail, have you tried linux-2.2.12.tar.bz2?
i'd definitely give the latest and greatest kernel release a try and
although it's a pain, use a another virtual screen with a small font
and watch the compilation for strangeness, especially the module
parts.  and also try making a kernel with the driver built in and
watch it, see what dmesg has to say about both of them.

that's all i've got right now, i've been drained at school.
