DLT is also 100% proprietary. The competing standard is called AIT, and
is roughly comparable. An interesting new product is the VXA extreme
(www.vxatape.com), which will back up 80GB on one tape. The ads show a
tape which was placed into boiling water from which the data could still
be read.
