sounds like you might have chosen the wrong extended.  There are three to
choose from when fdisking your disk: dos (type 5), windows (type f), and
linux extended (type 85) partitions.

What I would suggest is using linux fdisk to remove that partition and
then see if the windows fdisk will see the empty space and create it's own
partition.  If that fails you might need to convert the 'dos extended' to
'windows extended' (type f).

I've heard very good things about partition magic, which might be able to
help you quite a bit.  It's available with Caldera 2.2 and also by itself
at your local software retailer.
