 Yes, no, and no.
 Seriously, My router is a Dell 75 with 32mb, and I think 8 megs of memory
would be more than plenty. It never hits the swap. One note, though. See
if your m/b supports a no-keyboard boot. Most do if you turn off the
keyboard in the BIOS. Dell doesn't. I didn't install X or much of anything
else, took the monitor off as soon as the box found the network, and it
wouldn't have a keyboard if it would boot... I ssh in on it now & then cuz
I'm too lazy to tell it to e-mail me the logs. 
 Since ping times from the ipchains box to my office are .8ms shorter than
times from this box, I don't think Quake will suffer much.
 And your RR modem will never ever ever saturate your 10BT NIC.
