If you are using a recent kernel, I think you will want to use ipchains.
It is the successor to ipfw.
If you are looking to setup a firewall, you should be familiar with the
contents of Chapman's firewall book (O'Reilly). If not, stop and
go no further.
Once you have a handle on filtering specs, check out the ipchains howto
<http://metalab.unc.edu/linux/HOWTO/IPCHAINS-HOWTO.html>. That will
lead you through some good examples.
