Hi Paul,
I did try your suggestions, but they didn't seem to work.
By "playing" with the fonts, I mean that I was changing the fonts through
the "fonts" menu under Xterm (Gnome, RedHat). I wonder if there is a place
where Xterm's parameters are stored; I assume changing parameters under
Xterm's menus would affect only that particular application, and not all
of X? However, something global must have been changed if xtart cannot
start?
I seem to have the correct font directories in the correct places. I also
added the FontPath's in the XF86Config file. In case it helps, I found the
following message in my file:
# Multiple FontPath entries are allowed (they are concatenated together)
# By default, Red Hat 6.0 and later now use a font server independent of
# the X server to render fonts.
FontPath "unix/:-1"
EndSection
I tried starting X with and without this line commented out (after I
added the Fontpaths).
In case this helps, below is the last screenful of comments I get when
startx fails. Let me know if you need more specifics.
Thanks again,
Carlos.
