Hello,

I am new to the siglinux list, and *really* new to linux. I'm dual booting
win98/RH 6.0 on a celeron 400/128M with a Diamondmm Supra Express 56k/V.90
external serial modem.

I'm trying to dialup to telesys from linux (using linuxconf) and everything
seems to be going okay, but then the connect terminates. Upon review of
the logs I find this:

>Using interface ppp0
>Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/modem
>LCP: timeout sending Config-Requests
>Connection terminated.
>Connect time 0.6 minutes.
>Receive serial link is not 8-bit clean:
>Problem: all had bit 7 set to 0
>Exit.

Now I've found this theory:

"In my case it was because the chat script sent a Crtl-M
at the finish of the chat script (it was something like
an expect-send pair that went "CONNECT" "", and chat sent
a carriage return for the ""), and the other side interpreted
that as a desire to start a term login instead of PPP."

Now, I'm really new so I think I understand what's going on, but I have no
ideas about how to go about fixing it.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks,

Seth
