If Microsoft or its programmers were to release Word for GNU/Linux
under the GNU General Public Licence, chances are good that the GNU/Linux
community would examine it, debug it and probably use it in some form(s).
However, if Microsoft were to do this, Word would cease to be a Microsoft
product, as Microsoft defines the term. The program would belong to the
community of users, and Microsoft would lose control of the program,
although they would be welcome to contribute modifications (complete with
source code) to the community just like every other user.
