This seems to happen at every computer auction, as far as I can tell.  A
really good business model for selling PC hardware is to simply dispense
with the horrendously unprofitable part where you to try to run a store 
and just go straight to the going out of business auction.

Which reminds me of a guy selling PC's in Chicago a few years ago.  He
would build systems and then try to sell them as new, and no one would buy
them.  Then he hit upon the idea of just advertising them in the
classifieds as "used computer for sale" at exactly the same price, and he
ended up quiting his day job just to sell PC's.  (And his marketing costs
were lower, too.)
