I saw this too. Since I recently had ftpd running for a few months to
do some work, I bet this is what happened to me. i didn't have
anything else running except that and sendmail, so I guess it
could actually be either. Those are the only two that weren't
protected by ipchains anyway.
Well, I've got my system back up a tighter than ever. I installed
portsentry, logcheck, and tripwire (for grins). I am now in the
process of reconstructing my old ipchains setup (with a few
modifications). But I have one problem. I switched to Slack 7
from RH 6, and now I can't find how the logs are rotated. Does
anybody know? I can't find a script or a crontab entry anywhere.
Does slackware not rotate the logs?
Thanks for the tip on portsentry. I've been playing with it some, and
it's pretty sweet.
