Be careful. It's not like a modem -- you can't just buy one of
the shelf and be assured it will work. There isn't a DSL standard.
(Yet ... G.Lite should fix that.)
Your CPE (customer premises equipment) must be compatible with the DSLAM
(DSL access multiplexer) your provider uses. You may want to ask your
provider for a recommendation.
Also, the trend among providers is to require PPPOE (or PPPOA) for
ADSL connections. That's another can of worms.
FYI, at home I've got 160K SDSL service with a Netopia modem. I used
a dual-Ethernet 386DX33 running RedHat 6.2 as my firewall/router. I'm
pleased with that setup.
