i'm sure all kinds of things can go screwy after an upgrade of glibc.  
i typically upgrade distribution versions before i attempt something
like that, especially if it's a significant glibc version difference.

look to see what libc.so.6 is linked to.  regardless of the different
versions you have installed, follow the symlinks and _that_ is the version
in use.  maybe your glibc upgrade didn't reset that symlink.
