Nothing unusual, it happens... What you need to do is try hard to
reinterpret the parameters and reconfigure the network. Like sometime (what
I saw in case of RH 6.2) it asks to enter "local host" as Host name
parameter, the next screen asks not to do that, it's researved for "other
purposes".

It's better not to rely entirely on autodetection procedure, do something
manually as well.

The parameters where I stumbled most were: "Network", "Broadcast", "Host
name", and in DNS entries. While setting up adapter parameters, configure
only one adapter if you have single internet provider.

So the following is what I would suggest you to try:

Network : LAN -- if you have LAN connection
Broadcast: spencero (perhaps, I forgot what I did)
-- your account name to the provider

           Follow client network configurations

Host name: spencero -- once again (safer perhaps)
"primary name + domain" or similar dialog box
         : mail.utexas.edu
Aliases : mail
Default domain : -- better to keep it blank

Try with this, carefully interpret the dialog box parameters, and re-enter
the network addresses once again, hope it will work.

Once again, do not really get disheartened with error messages. At the end
it may not actually be a proper message for your system configurations. Also
not to fill all the dialog boxes, don't be afraid; but placing any wrong
parameter will certainly block the connection.

Good luck
