Subject: glibc rpm failed dependency

ORBS sucks. i tried to send this to the siglinux list and it got sent back. i
checked the originating IP and the smtp server mail.texas.rr.com
[24.93.35.219] in the ORBS database at www.orbs.com, and they both checked
out. if you can help me configure kmail to work with/around ORBS, that would
be most appreciated, but for now, could you forward this to the list?

i'm trying to install glibc v2.2-5 from rpm like this "rpm -Uvh
glibc-2.2-5.i686.rpm. it fails like this :

error: failed dependencies:
        basesystem is needed by glibc-2.2-5

then this :
[root@nunyabidnes]# rpm -Uvh glibc-2.2-0.i386.rpm
error: failed dependencies:
        /bin/sh is needed by glibc-2.2-0
        /usr/bin/perl is needed by glibc-2.2-0

i don't know what in the world it's talking about. i'm running RedHat 6.2.
"/bin/sh" is there, "/usr/bin/perl" is there. both paths are in the PATH in
/etc/profile. i've been having similar troubles with several other packages
too. they're not able to find files that are where they should be. i'm
running rpm v.4.0. might that be the problem? does any one have any ideas on
this? thanks is advance for any help with this.
