I think XFree86 4.0.x stores crash logs in /var/log by default.
Might be more informative than the initial startup screen spew.
WRT the memory, I've never heard of a store that would do that.
Sorry... I know I've seen boards that will take more than 3 dimms (by
that I mean modern boards). E.g. the Abit VP6, their new dual FCPGA intel
board. ($149 @ essencom.com) Hey, if you're going to have 768 ram, you
might as well go dual proc too... ;-) Or the ASUS CUV4X-E, which is a
single proc socket 370 board (I'm a little confused by all the sockets
Intel has come out with recently, so I'm not sure if this is FCPGA or no),
$102 @ essencom.com. (I use essencom.com as a price example, they're a
store in NYC that I've had positive dealings with.) Or for only $319 you
could get the Asus CUV4X-DLS, which is like the server version of the
CUV4X-E (dual cpu, integrated ultra160 scsi and 10/100 lan). That board
supports up to 4GB. So there's at least three choices from my cursory
examination of essencom.com. Note that all of those boards are 133
native. I'm sure you could find a 4 dimm 100 native board out there (hit
ebay for an earlier version of that asus server board if nothing else,
like the p2b-dls).
