I used to go to these every month when I was building computers for cash in Jr
High. Get there early, about 4 or 5 AM for the best deals in used stuff, quick
sells, etc. Avoid Tiger Distributing if they still exist, they're assholes,
but I've had good luck for current parts from Dallas Micro Distributing, Dallas
Memory, Memory Maximus, and Buck Computers. There are a few Sun dealers and
I've seen good prices on old sparcs, ipx, etc, but I have never dealt with them.
There used to be a sale on the 3rd sat at the Infomart, but they moved to
market hall or someplace in north dallas or carrolton in the last year or two,
and it costs $3 if I remember right to get in now. Its basically the same
people as first sat with fewer used parts dealers, so I don't know why they
even bother keeping 3rd sat up.
also, check out www.ntlug.org, they do linux installs at almost every show and
have monthly meetings, etc. When I was going, meetings were around 50 people,
it would definitely be worth going in for nothing else than to get contacts...
