For all you siglinux members that are stuck in Austin
this Summer , like me, I invite you to come to the
first Goodwill Linux User Group. This is happening
tonight at 7:00pm (talking about short notice! . . .
but, hey, there is always next Wednesday's meeting if
you can't make it today . . .) at Goodwill Computer
Works (183 and Ohlin). I have a table set up with 8
networked boxes (7 Mandrake 6.1 and 1 Mandrake 8.0
that I can't seem to get X running on, so please come
out and help). There are a couple of other Mandrake
6.1 boxes that are not networked that are for sell.
Basically, GWLUG is just getting formed so there are
no official events planned for tonight. So today we
will just be talking and playing around with Linux
running hardware (though, essentially, future meetings
will be the same). We'd like to get a consensus of
what people think, and who wants to become members (of
course membership is free!). So far, we are distro.
agnostic and the reason everything has Mandrake on it
is because that is what I'm most comfortable with at
the moment, and I was doing the installing . . .
(there will be opportunities to install other distros.
BYOD). Also, feel free to bring any free licensed
software to install on our computers! There is plenty
of HD space left (I think . . .).
For those of you not familar with Goodwill
Computerworks, a map can be found here:
http://www.goodwillcomputerworks.net/map.html
Genereal goals of GWLUG include:
-allow members to have access to all types of hardware
and gain a diverse enough knowledge base that we can
actually learn how to use some of this hardware under
Linux
-support Goodwill Computerwork's Linux section
(installs)
-support Goodwill Computerwork's Linux using customers
-play with a store full of toys and have a blast
-got an idea? Come tell us about it!
Feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions. We
are attempting to get a website up sometime in the
near, near future.
Hope to see some of you tonight!
Thanks,
Ivan Stout
