It's OT, but ... this list could use more volume.

Subject: potentially harmful code

I've noticed a very disturbing trend in my src-grokking --

Apparently, I've uncovered a GNU boy-band conspiracy, complete with code hidden
within various unix distributions that tracks and tabulates their performance.

For a few examples, see the following:

['BB' here refers to 'boy band']
src/gnu/egcs/gcc/gcse.c: VISITED is a pointer to a working buffer for tracking
which BB's have been visited.
src/gnu/egcs/gcc/graph.c:      enum bb_state { NOT_IN_BB, IN_ONE_BB,
IN_MULTIPLE_BB };
src/gnu/egcs/gcc/final.c:struct bb_list {

[nsync]
src/gnu/usr.bin/cvs/lib/strerror.c:#if defined (EL2NSYNC)
src/sys/ufs/lfs/lfs.h:    u_int   nsync_writes;
src/sys/ufs/lfs/lfs_segment.c:            ++lfs_stats.nsync_writes;
src/usr.bin/error/error.h:#define nsyncerrors     class_count[C_SYNC]

[backstreet boys]
src/gnu/egcs/gcc/config/m68k/sun3.h:      struct bb *blocks;
src/gnu/egcs/gcc/flow.c:   in BB_NOTE, if any.  */
src/gnu/egcs/gcc/gcse.c:    /* BB loops on itself.  */
src/gnu/egcs/gcc/haifa-sched.c:   N=2: bb's probabilities, detailed ready list
info, unit/insn info.
src/gnu/egcs/gcc/haifa-sched.c:#define BB_TO_BLOCK(bb)
(rgn_bb_table[current_blocks + (bb)])
src/gnu/egcs/gcc/haifa-sched.c: When analysis is completed for bb, we update
for its successors:
src/gnu/egcs/gcc/haifa-sched.c:       bb_succ = BLOCK_TO_BB (b_succ);
src/gnu/usr.bin/binutils/opcodes/ppc-opc.c:#define BBOYBI_MASK (BBOYCB_MASK |
BI_MASK)
src/gnu/usr.bin/gas/opcode/ppc.h:{ "bdz",     BBO(16,BODZ,0,0),  BBOYBI_MASK,
COM, { BD } },

[98 degrees]
src/gnu/egcs/gcc/mips-tfile.c:  sc_Nil,                   /*  98 */
src/gnu/egcs/gcc/fixinc/fixincl.x: *  Description  98 - Zzz_Ki_Iface fix
src/gnu/egcs/gcc/fixinc/inclhack.sh:    # Fix  98:  Zzz_Ki_Iface
src/gnu/egcs/gcc/java/parse.c:case 98:
src/gnu/usr.bin/binutils/gdb/minimon.h:#define CHANNEL1      98
src/gnu/usr.bin/binutils/gdb/doc/stabs.texinfo:     .byte 98
src/gnu/usr.bin/binutils/include/mpw/mpw.h:#define EACCES 98

There are plenty of other examples, just read the source!

In the face of this overwhelming evidence, need I say any more?
