Yep, RR uses DHCP. DHCPCD seems to work well as a DHCP client for me; I
never could get pump to work.
How well is djbdns working for you? I'm thinking about using its dnscache
server, but I read somewhere that it doesn't work too well through NAT'd
connections (something about the way it randomly chooses an unprivileged
port...).
Interesting aside, overheard at work: A co-worker of mine is, er, a bit
anal, and wasn't thrilled about the fact that Time-Warner explicitly
forbids running servers, sharing connections, etc., but at the same time
informally tells customers to go ahead and do it. He contacted the
Travis County DA's office, who informed him that, yes, advising a customer
to break his/her contract is illegal (they also mentioned that if they had
to take action, then one of the first things to probably happen would be
that Roadrunner would be temporarily shut down). He called T-W Austin,
told them about his talk with the DA, and was put in touch with the
president/CEO/whatever of T-W Austin, and now he actually has express
permission from T-W Austin to run servers and share a single connection
among several computers.
Please, everyone, don't get any funny ideas, though. I'm happy to be
running my illicit servers, even with only tacit approval.
