I recently compiled 2.4.16. After fiddling around with config options I got
everything working (kind of) including sound and USB. My question pertains to
Mandrake startup scripts and the modules they are looking for. For starters
it tries to start up "IP Virtual Server" but gives an error, "cannot find
file /proc/net/ip_vs" because support is not compiled into the kernel. First
off, what does IP virtual server do? net connection seems fine... Secondly, I
could find any mention of this in the kernel config, what module is it
looking for?

After that comes a line that says, "Checking for New Hardware..." I think
this is kudzu running. It spits out several insmod errors and then startup
proceeds. Like I said, everything I use on a daily basis seems to be working
fine. The question here is what config files do I need to look at to stop
kudzu from inserting non existant modules? Or do I even need kudzu if its not
working properly.

Last issue is on shutdown, and this has been with me ever since I installed
the system. I get four lines:
usb.c: Disconnecting device 1
usb.c: Disconnecting device 2
usb.c: Disconnecting device 3
usb.c: Disconnecting device 4

Then shut down stops and I have to hard reset, luckily I have ext3 so I dn't
have to fsck at every startup. Is there a log where I could look for more
information on what is going on here?

Sorry for the long and multi-questioned note

Spencer
