been trying to get java working under debian.

first, i tried installing the latest blackdown .debs.

first i tried using the java 2 SDK package, and then the java 2
runtime package, bot of which provide a java plugin.

then i tried upgrading mozilla to 0.9.8.

then I tried removing the blackdown stuff, and downloaded and
installed sun's java runtime environment.

in all these situations, about:plugins reports that the plugins are
installed correctly. however, i still have yet to see any page
display a java applet.

with the older version of mozilla i was using, i would get the
error html message you are supposed to see printed in the place of
a plugin in the case you dont have plugin support.

however, with 0.9.8, i dont ever see that. there is simply a void
where the applets should be displaying.

anyone have any helpful hints to offer?

thanks,
jason pepas
