Normally on Redhat there is a file call "boot.img" that provides access to an ide/eide
CD drive. (I think DVD's are included.) There is also net.img for access to network
stored iso images. I think there might also be a special image for access to SCCI (<-
spelling?) drives.

Looking at ftp://ftp.utexas.edu/mirrors/linux/mandrake/9.0/i586/images/

I'd use the cd.img for making a boot disk.

Also has anyone tried to install a linux version from HD stored iso images on a
windows partition? I read that it can be done via a fat partition, but I've never
done it.

Hope I helped,

Big Mike
