Ever since I installed linux I've had printer problems printing via a
network and so I decided to make it a local printer to see what that did.
However, it still doesn't seem to work. I have the printer on parallel
port #0 (/dev/lp0) and I know that's a node and so I did an ls -l lp0 and it
came up with printers or something similar to that. In other words, I am
assuming the node is valid. If my printer is plugged into LPT1, which it
is, does anyone have any ideas why it wouldn't be working? I installed the
printer using Mandrake Control Center and it just went through a wizard and
set the printer up for me correctly (or so I thought).

However, I think I have a good idea what's going on. Although CUPS starts
up fine and all, lpd doesn't. It does start up and shows the "OK" message
by it but it tells me that my Get_local_host: is a bad host name. However,
I really don't know what to change it to and even if I did I don't know how
to fix it. I figured that setting up the printer through PrinterDrake
would've taken care of all that for me but I guess it didn't, or it might be
confused since I used to have the printer installed on the network???? Is
that at all reasonable?

Any suggestions or help you could give me to fixing my problem would be much
appreciated.

John Tucker
