forgot to mention that the instructions for all the jdk/jre/jvm's to get java working in mozilla have failed me. shows up as "unknown application/java" in mozilla. i made the link from the mozilla plugin directory to the java plugin file in the jdk directory, but still no dice. very frustrating.
