Furthermore....
Unwilling to give up on java_on_gentoo_sparc, I downloaded a j2sdk from
here:ftp://ftp.tux.org/pub/java/JDK-1.3.1/sparc/FCS-02b/
After fooling around with the java-config scripts and renaming the
paths, I have j2sdk1.3.1 fully functional on the sparc.
Just so y'all know, it can be done,
