A 233 MHz Pentium (1) box with 128 MB of RAM will run XP reasonably well. I've got a laptop with these specs that my wife uses occasionally and she's never complained about it's speed except when she was trying to run the Sims on it. (Of course, it'll also run Linux well too. You might be happier with a simpler window manager than Gnome or KDE, but I think that even they'll work OK.) As for monitors, there's lots of spare 17" monitors out there that people will part with very cheaply. You could probably get a few for free with a little detective work. Goodwill sells them for under $30, I know that. $10 seems to ring a bell, but maybe that was just a special. In any event, if people are interested in semi-functional computers (i.e. they worked when they were pulled out of production several years ago, but might have had some parts taken out at the time) in the PentiumPro 200 or so speed range, I might have two or so to give away. Oh, and this isn't really related to this thread, but instead to that one about Linux slogans? Any slogan that mentions Microsoft and/or Windows suggests that Linux exists only to be an alternative to Microsoft Windows. Which is certainly not the case. -- Doug McLaren, [EMAIL PROTECTED] _______________________________________________ Siglinux mailing list Siglinux@utacm.org http://www.utacm.org:81/mailman/listinfo/siglinux
