Thanks, I merged the patch with a few minor fixes in the description. I was not able to cleanly apply the patch with "git am foo.patch" though. I think your mail client messed up some whitespace. Specifically, all lines of the patch that do _not_ start with a "+" should start with a space (but don't). Your mail client probably treats the patch as text and decided that leading whitespace is useless, and thus removed it? Not sure. Either way, after I manually added those spaces, applying worked fine. Please check if you can disable that option in your client for later patches and/or attach the "git format-patch HEAD~1" generated file to your mails, which should keep whitespace intact.
