New IRIS Center Module: Universal Design for Learning
Dear IRIS Family,
We are pleased to announce the posting of the latest addition to our
every-growing family of STAR Legacy Modules: Universal Design for Learning:
Creating a Learning Environment that Challenges and Engages All Students.
Sycamore Middle School is an urban school with a large percentage of students
from diverse backgrounds. Eleven percent of its students have disabilities, a
typical number for the district, and 85 percent receive free or reduced
lunches. Although some of the school's students perform well academically, a
number of them do not score in the proficient range on the required subject
areas on the end-of-year standardized test. Sycamore Middle's teachers are
aware that their students have a great range of interests and abilities, and
they are finding it difficult to meet all of their learning needs. Work along
with the Sycamore Middle School faculty team as they learn how to incorporate
flexible materials, techniques, and strategies for delivering instruction to
allow students to demonstrate their knowledge in a variety of ways. To view the
module, please go to http://iris.peabody.vanderbilt.edu/udl/chalcycle.htm
