Exactly, as you thought, you can do it.
The statements in a script are processed one after the other (all the Sikuli
functions like click() and find()
and wait() are functions too, with the only difference, that they are
predefined/preloaded by the Sikuli environment)
So in your case, the wait() is processed when firstfunction() has ended,
and secondfunction() starts processing either after the "for a image to
appear" appeared or did not appear within 3 seconds.
