You might follow the bug 710586, to get informed about the OCR situation.
In general it works, but is dependent from text color, background and font. So
it is your decision, ether you can use it in your situation. As a general
solution, that cannot assure the acceptance of the restrictions mentioned
before, in my opinion it is not usable.
