Thats how it should be.
But the question is:
The grey overlay is it solid or transparent? You should still see the screen
content behind.
When the gray overlay comes up, you have to select a region, by
left-mouse-click-and-hold and then drag to form the region.
Just like you select a rectangle area in many other applications.
Releasing the mouse button again brings you back to the IDE and shows
your captured image as thumbnail.
