Ok, I tried it on my Mac (IPhone Simulator 4.3):
What you describe happens for me with CMD+LEFT or CMD+RIGHT and it
works.
switchApp("iPhone Simulator")
wait(1)
type(Key.LEFT, KeyModifier.CMD)
