RaiMan proposed the following answer:
Sikuli is only visual: It does not know anything about how the pixels are
produced on the screen, which means it does not matter, how a GUI was
programmed. Sikuli has no features, to dive into a GUI's structures like some
other automation tools (e.g. Selenium for web GUI's).
But this is, why it can be used all over the place if only a Java 6 or Java 7
environment is available and the system has real screen, mouse and keyboard.
