RaiMan proposed the following answer:
just tested on 10.7.5 (so it surely runs on 10.8, 10.9 and 10.10)
- downloaded the setup jar
- put into an empty folder
- doubleclicked to start setup
- selected option 1
- and finally got a SikuliX.app in this folder (besides the folder Downloads,
the setup jar and the log file)
if the problems persist:
look into the log file
