Yes, this does not work with various Linux window/desktop managers.
On my current Ubuntu 14.04 test system I have the settings so that the bars
auto-vanish.
If I have the bars fixed visible the behaviour is odd.
To look for the reasons is not my priority in the moment, sorry.
BTW: this is completely different to the Mac top menu situation: this is
included when using capture(SCREEN). You are not able to start a manual
capture in the menu bar, but only slightly below.
