RaiMan proposed the following answer:
showMonitors() does not return anything (hence None), but prints a line
for each monitor to StdOut.

screens = ""
for i in range(Screen.getNumberScreens()):
screens += "Screen %d: %s || " % (i, Screen(i))
print screens
