"How to get Media Attention" by IT News journalist, Kathryn Small.

Don't sell me your product, sell me a story that will interest
readers.
You need to do it in the format of media release, it's not
hard...........
Releases should be about an event.....
something that just happened eg a new person on your team.
Shd be simple, one page.

a) Headline:
eg "Raptor.com overtakes Google search"
One line, less than 10 words. Don't try to be too smart.
Do it in Times New Roman......don't get tricky with type or layout.

b) One lead paragraph:
eg X just launched Y for the Z market.

c) In depth text:
........a few paragraphs......we love statistics, details, other co's
you've been involved in....gritty, nerdy = good.

d) Boilerplate
Company/business overview
........."founded in x by 2 entrepreneurs, services this niche in that
market, recently gained xth customer" etc
I'll use these details to write knowledgeably about your company.

Always use the third person.
Use quotes from yourself........2 or 3. And use your titie.
The quotes go straight into the story.

Send one hi res picture. Min 300 dpi at full size......10-15 cm
Invite people to lunch, coffee. They'll expect u pay.

Give your contact details, inc. desk phone number.

Send pdf's but don't screw w the layout.

Build up a list of media contacts
She's building one we can have.

Build personal rel'ship w the journo.
Frequency of contact = once a month.
