Hi Mick, Reading this line "What sets me apart, I think, is a tolerance for risk and an intuition about what will happen in the future". in the article http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2014/06/the-pitchforks-are-coming-for-us-plutocrats-108014.html#ixzz3JFJ9Lpi0
Made me think about your comments about Australian super being able to invest in startups.....my initial reaction was hell no....superannuation MUST be invested in AAA rated investments (I even think Superannuation being used to invest in real estate is a mistake as well but that's more to localized Australian market inflation issues) but in hindsight reading this article has made me realize that maybe I was wrong. Here is a guy who even in his own words wasn't that smart and was an average student at best ".....but now I own a yacht". Maybe there is an "Aussie Amazon" out there waiting to be discovered that will change the world.....and as such maybe we (the Australian startup community) should be lobbying for 5% of superannuation to be invested into startups. Politicians will probably screw it up with regulation and procedures but if 15 million Australians set apart 5% of their super maybe we could export something to the world that would dramatically change the investment return profile to Australian superannuation holders. Lets face it, basically its no bigger a crap shoot than the ASX, NYSE, LSE etc Regards, Dean Collins Cognation Inc [email protected] <mailto:[email protected]>+1-212-203-4357 New York -- -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Silicon Beach Australia mailing list.
