"Art is given to us to keep us from dying of truth."
— Friedrich W. Nietzsche
Remember coming across this quote recently. In terms of Cory's piece which I enjoyed, I think words are a poor substitute for the most important emotions in life, which are largely inarticulable. Talking about art, for me, is really about talking about emotions-- which is very difficult.
This reminds me of the Zappa quote: "Writing about music is like dancing about architecture". :)
My ₹0.02: Anything you intentionally interact with has at least 2 aspects to it, form and function. Art (qua art), to me, lies in the form - i.e, it is what you think about when you ignore the functionality. After all, a ₹500 digital watch probably keeps better time than a ₹2500000 Rolex. Why would you then prefer the latter?
(I am ignoring, for the purpose of this discussion, the signaling or "conspicuous consumption" aspect of a ₹2500000 purchase.)
