I've noticed that the rhetoric of right-wing people centres on fear, in several ways. They're so afraid of people who are different, seeing them as an immediate threat to them, while also encouraging people to conform through fear of punishment. It's always "more discipline" and "being tougher on crime" and "tougher on immigration" - the idea being that the only thing stopping these terrible people from doing terrible things is they, themselves, being afraid of "us".
