Murderbot is AMAZING the 7th book just came out and I almost took a day off work to read it :D
They're mostly novellas so you'll breeze through them. I also second Smoke and Ashes which I managed to disappear into while on holiday in Goa, and is also one of the few non fiction books I've been able to read this year. It feels like I need to escape in my reading so it's a lot of fantasy: whether space opera, urban fantasy, romance, or regular fantasy. This year the books I really enjoyed were: 1. Babel by RF Kuang, most of all for its stringent critique of colonialism. Funnily enough I loathed The Poppy War, her first book that catapulted her to fame 2. The Imperial Radch trilogy by Ann Leckie, something else in the Murderbot space but more epic/space operatic 3. Romantic Comedy by Curtis Sittenfeld, which is just great fun in how it goes into comedy writing, but also I liked how it didn't avoid the pandemic and had an emotionally intelligent male protagonist 4. An Elderly Lady is up to No Good by Helene Tursten, about an elderly lady who murders people who annoy her. I may or may not see my future in this book :D 5. Under Fortunate Stars by Ren Hutchings, space drama with some time elements 6. Soft Animal by Meenakshu Redyd Madhavan. I might be biased here because she's a dear friend but I really enjoyed this novel that again did not deny covid and also really seemed willing to break the fantasy of coupledom being better than being single Cordially, Ameya Nagarajan (she/her) <http://www.linkedin.com/in/ameyann> On Mon, 20 Nov 2023 at 23:08, Thaths via Silklist < [email protected]> wrote: > On Mon, Nov 20, 2023 at 9:26 AM Christopher A Kantarjiev via Silklist < > [email protected]> wrote: > >> I've spent a lot of my year re-reading old favorites and new-to-me >> woodworking books.
