I used to hang around soc.culture.india (and soc.culture.tamil (baiting keyboard Tamil Tigers posting from carleton.ca) and a few other usenet groups) around that time as well. If you were reading those groups you may remember Rajan Parrikar (who continues to post some amazing photos in his blog <https://blog.parrikar.com/>) and Ramesh Mahadevan (who sadly passed away <https://nanopolitan.blogspot.com/2016/03/rip-ramesh-mahadevan.html> a few years ago).
