The article is muddled on prior changes. If I read correctly:

Pre-1996: UTC+0530
May 1996: UTC+0630
End-1996: UTC+0600
Apr 2006: UTC+0530

Is this correct? That is one indecisive country!

Besides, if their original "electricity consumption in the evenings" reasoning has any basis, then we'll be hit too as eastern India gets progressively more advanced.
