Actually - it is supposed to be Shivshankar. But Kannadigas do not have any
mechanism to restrict the sound of the letter "v" to just "vuh" as in Hindi.
"v" is always "Va" in Kannada, so in Karnataka it becomes Shivashankara.

Sastry is a bigger problem. The name is supposed to be pronounced
"Shars-three". Most people from Tamil Nadu cannot say that and end up saying
"Sars-three" But since the name has unfortunately been historicaly spelt as
"Sastry" in English - anyone who reads it thinks it is "Sars-three" unless I
insist that it is "Shars-three".

In Kannada the name is written as "Shivashankara Shasthree"
In Hindi it can easily be written down as "Shivshankar Shasthree"
In Tamil I am guessing that it could only be "Sivasangara Sastri"

Take your pick. You will always get me whichever way.

shiv ("nallu" - actually nalu)
