I've heard this happens in Pakistan too. And rumblings of "Indian
cultural imperialism" are already beginning to be heard.
On the other hand, then Indian Prime Minister AB Vajpayee was
reportedly greeted by a group of (obviously, male) Pakistanis on a
visit to Pakistan who were chanting "Madhuri de do, Kashmir le lo"
[1] (roughly, "Take Kashmir, but give us Madhuri instead", said
Madhuri being, at the time, a very popular hindi movie actress)
Several years on. this meme is alive and well, with chants at
India-Pakistan cricket matches: "Match tusi le lo, Aishwarya saanu de
do" (take the match, give us Aishwarya) [2].
