Here's another fun problem: how well does ultrabroadband work in
space? Can you do phased-array tricks (fixed radiator geometry,
realtime reconfiguration in software) with ultrabroadband, or
do you need optimized (fractal?) aerials, which are intrinsically
non-omni? With LoS lasers, do you need MEMS optical tracking,
or can you get away with reconfigurable holografic optics?
Can you do it with freely tumbling birds, or *will*
you need gyros? Can you scale each bird down to 1 kg, or less?
How do you syncronize non-nuke oscillators with
UWB, simultaneously doing mutual realtime time-of-flight
triangulation, to obtain your addresses? How do you establish
addressing/position consensus in the flock, and how do you
prevent drift? How can you prevent position spoofing and large-scale
DoS by injecting false position info ("I'm an Earth-surface beakon,
so *my* drift is just cm/year, trust me")? How do you marry the ultrasmart
(e.g. agoric load levelling) and the ultra-dumb (just a thin veneer
of hardware decoration over raw physics)?
