I've tried hard to understand this lack of inexpensive, reasonably good food in b'lore, but still havent.
arent bangloreans supposed to be 'tindi potaru' i.e. foodies?

The place next door used to serve meals for Rs 17-23 (depending on options), but with the recent petrol price hike, it's up all the way to Rs 28 now. I eat there pretty much every day.

In Bombay, there's this place called Gopal Ashram just around the corner from Bombay Store that served two chapatis plus rice for Rs 19 (in 1999, when I worked at DN Road). They had no menu -- everyone got the same food.

In Jayanagar -- which is fast becoming the hub of all my activities -- the Ramakrishna Hospital canteen (hi Shiv!) serves good food for about the same rates. I eat there sometimes.
