To amplify on the above crypticism:

I'd asked Madhu, along with a couple of other silklister yahoos, to
check on this random weirdness a few days back, when the archive had
disappeared completely. I'm not sure what came of that, but it did come
back in a day or so, but started displaying non-standard behaviour
again after that.

I'm not sure what exactly this means - Madhu, can you expand? Does this
mean that yahoogroups will not support archiving of externally hosted
lists anymore? This sounds dumb to me, for at least 2 reasons:

1. The folks who have externally hosted lists archived on yahoogroups
(other examples: india-gii, fork, rre) tend to be those who've been
online a fair while, have some reputation capital accumulated, and can
make this a PR disaster for yahoo, at least in some circles.

2. It just doesn't make commercial sense to throw away traffic -
especially traffic for which you're not even incurring the associated
cost of running a list for!
