The moisture gets in eventually and corrodes the terminals, after
which brushing becomes an exercise in squeezing the rubberised cover
at various points, in hope of getting the motor started again.

 
Now *that's* a pretty picture....

Does your brush appear to be in good health? I'm on my second stick
in two years, and this too is dying.
